Youth American Grand Prix 2024
What is YAGP?
Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is the world’s largest student ballet competition that awards over $250,000 annually in scholarships to dance students worldwide.
In early 2024, ABA plans to take a small group of dancers to YAGP competition in Seattle, WA. This group will be coached by Guillaume Basso & Abby Jayne DeAngelo.
In order to prepare for this competition, students should expect to participate in a series of private lessons over the Fall to learn their classical variation and/or contemporary piece.
We are excited to provide this opportunity for our Academy students this year!
Details & Requirements
Who is Eligible?
Academy dancers ages 15-20 years old who are enrolled in the Full-Time Program (Primary Essentials, Advanced & Adagio Tiers only) for the 2023-2024 season are eligible to compete for scholarships at YAGP representing Adage Ballet Academy. We do not plan to take Junior Dancers to compete this year.
YAGP age categories are divided as follows:
-
Senior (15-20 years old, born between January 2, 2003 and January 1, 2008)
-
Junior (12-14 years old, born between January 2, 2008 and January 1, 2011)
What is the Cost and what does it include?
-
$110 YAGP registration fee - this is a non-refundable fee per dancer and includes complementary master classes.
-
$115 YAGP each solo entry - per dance.
-
$45 per 30 minute private lesson. Private lessons can be scheduled as frequently as once/week from September - January.
-
Costume and Travel Fees will be discussed in further detail during the parent meeting on Saturday, September 9th.
Parent Meeting:
Dancers and their parents will then attend a mandatory meeting on Saturday September 9th, 2023 at 4:00pm. This meeting will include a cost breakdown, rehearsal times for the fall, and all other info pertaining to YAGP. Following this meeting, during the week of September 11, dancers will have a mandatory private lesson for evaluation and solo selection (see how solos are selected below).
How are Solos selected?
Dancers will each perform 1 ballet solo; additional ballet and/or contemporary solos will be permitted based on request and schedule allowance.
Senior division dancers are required to perform en pointe. Dancers are not permitted to select their own solo, as they must comply to YAGP rules and regulations. Solos will be selected by instructors based on what fits each dancers style and skill set best.
When and where is the Competition?
Dates for the 2024 semi-finals have not yet been released by YAGP. However, based on the 2023 events, they will likely take place in January and/or February. The exact dates and locations will be shared with you as soon as they are available.
If you need more information in order to help your student make their decision about YAGP, or have further questions, please contact us.
