The coherent structure of the curriculum, organized around space, time, form, momentum, movement, patterns, and expression, allows students to move from broad dance foundations into more specific classical training. Each class is organized through several periods of study, including floor barre, elementary technique, conditioning, composition, and play studies. Because the Elementary schedule expands to four hours per week, dancers have more time to develop each part of the work with greater depth and intensity. In technique, students begin to study the forms, positions, footwork, and the principle of turning out that distinguish classical ballet from other dance styles. Conditioning continues through the animal-pose system inspired by yoga with the introduction of new poses and more complex variations. This allows students to build strength, mobility, balance, and healthy movement habits while preserving the curiosity and playfulness that make the work accessible to young dancers.

 

As a performing academy, Adage believes stage experience to be an essential part of a dancer’s education. Elementary students are included in performance opportunities, such as The Nutcracker and the Spring Showcase, where their responsibilities begin to grow alongside their training. At this level, dancers may take part in more complex group dances, clearer ensemble patterns, and early theatrical work such as gesture or pantomime. These experiences give young dancers a deeper encounter with the world of the theater, the discipline of rehearsal, the responsibility of participating in an ensemble, and the excitement of sharing dance with an audience.
